Press Council Nepal sets up expert team on code violation

Kathmandu: Press Council Nepal has set up an expert team to analyze the trend of journalists' code violations in mass communications.

The special team comprises noted journalists Taranath Dahal, Dr Mahendra Bista and Babita Basnet. Dahal and Bista are former Chairs of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), while Basnet is former Chair of Sancharika Samuha.

The expert team will study the issues on print, broadcast and digital media, related complaints, existing code of conduct, Council's regulation and forthcoming moves the Council needs to adopt.

In the meeting held to this end on Tuesday, Council's Chair Balkrishna Basnet expressed the belief that the expert team would provide significant suggestions to make the media sector respected, accountable and credible. "The scale, attitude and presentation of mass communications, and advancement in technology have posed challenges and invited hosts of public complaints. The formation of an expert team on monitoring mass communications contents is a new initiative to address the challenges, he added. [RSS]
