Prof. Dr. Nirmala Mani Adhikary to be Honored with ‘Gandaki Vangmaya Puraskar 2082’

He is widely recognized as the only professor of communication at the university and notably the first scholar from Nepal to earn both a PhD and postdoctoral degree in Communication.

 

 

Kathmandu: Gandaki Vangmaya Pratishthan has announced that Prof. Dr. Nirmala Mani Adhikary will be conferred with the prestigious “Gandaki Vangmaya Puraskar 2082,” recognizing his outstanding contributions to Nepali literature, communication, and academic research.

The decision was finalized during a meeting of the organization’s executive committee held on Chaitra 20, 2082. According to an official letter issued by the Pratishthan, the award acknowledges Prof. Adhikary’s long-standing dedication to the development, enrichment, and advancement of Nepali intellectual and literary traditions.

Prof. Adhikary is currently serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Languages and Mass Communication at Kathmandu University. He is widely recognized as the only professor of communication at the university and notably the first scholar from Nepal to earn both a PhD and postdoctoral degree in Communication. His academic journey is considered a landmark achievement in the field of communication studies in Nepal.

A distinguished communication theorist, Prof. Adhikary is the proponent of the globally recognized “Sadharanikaran Model of Communication,” an indigenous framework that integrates Eastern philosophical perspectives into modern communication theory. His work has contributed significantly to international academic discourse and has positioned Nepal within global communication scholarship.

With more than 60 published books and thousands of research articles in national and international journals, Prof. Adhikary has played a vital role in shaping academic thought in communication, culture, and media studies. His writings continue to serve as key references for students, researchers, and scholars.

According to the Chairperson of the Pratishthan, Gaukumari Neupane, the award will be presented during a special ceremony to be held on the auspicious occasion of Nepali New Year 2083. The event is expected to bring together prominent figures from the academic, literary, and cultural sectors.

In its official press release, the organization also extended a formal invitation to Prof. Adhikary to attend the felicitation ceremony, expressing deep respect for his scholarly contributions. The Pratishthan operates under the guiding principle: “Culture, literature, music, and art are the identities of human civilization.”

Adding to his recent recognitions, Prof. Adhikary was also honored by Sudurpashchim Academy with the “Pahalmansingh Swar Memorial National Talent Award 2082,” further underscoring his impact on Nepal’s academic and cultural landscape.
