Candle March at South Asian University Demands Justice for Prakriti Lamsal

New Delhi: A peaceful candle march was organized at South Asian University (SAU) on the night of February 19, 2025, in memory of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal. Lamsal, a third-year B-Tech student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), tragically passed away under controversial circumstances. The event began with a one-minute silence in her honor, followed by a peaceful rally demanding an impartial investigation and justice.

The candle march aimed to urge an unbiased inquiry into the incident at KIIT, raise concerns over the administration’s negligence, and demand appropriate action against those responsible. Over 70 students from Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and India participated in the march, carrying messages such as "Stop Violence, We Want Justice!", "No More Cover-Ups, We Demand Accountability!", and "Justice for Prakriti Lamsal!" to express their solidarity and determination.

Beyond paying tribute to Prakriti Lamsal, the participants sought to prevent such incidents in the future and establish a fair justice system. The event reinforced the unity and friendship among students at SAU, highlighting their collective stand against injustice.

The students also expressed their commitment to taking stronger actions in the future to prevent similar incidents. They urged KIIT University to conduct a thorough investigation and take necessary steps to prevent such inhumane occurrences.

The tragic demise of Prakriti Lamsal and the alleged suppression following it have raised serious concerns regarding the safety and well-being of Nepali students. With over 1,000 Nepali students studying at KIIT, the issue of their security has become paramount. The incident has shaken their trust in the university administration, posing potential risks to their academic pursuits and mental well-being.
